About: Overview
Founded in 1947, MRM is one of two non-profit organizations in Texas caring for children with mental retardation who have been removed from their family by Child Protective Services because of neglect and abuse.

POPULATION SERVED
- 500 children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities
- Ages 3 through adulthood
- 64 children and more than 400 adults
- 95 percent of the clients have secondary diagnoses (in addition to mental retardation) that include cerebral palsy, vision impairments, autism, seizure disorder and varying degrees of emotional disturbance.
- 20 percent of our children are autistic; 20 of the 64 children are non-verbal
FACILITIES
- 20-acre South San Antonio campus with 6 cottages (5 childrens, 1 adult), Medical Services, Day Services, Education/Training Center, Laundry, Kitchen, Chapel, Gymnasium and Administration building
- 1 community home for children, 9 community homes for adults
- 3 apartment complexes offering semi-independent living for adults
- The Unicorn Centers, Inc., a vocational training facility for adults located on Hamilton Wolfe in the Medical Center
PROGRAMS
- Childrens Residential Program serving ages 3-17 years
- Child Placement Services placing children referred by Texas Dept. of Protective and Regulatory Services in foster care
- Adult Residential Services Program serving 18+ year-olds in HCS and ICF-MR group homes
- Day Activity and Health Services serving severely handicapped adults
- Day Habilitation Program serving adults with moderate to mild mental retardation
- Vocational Program (Unicorn Centers, Inc.) training and job placement for adults
- In-home and Family Support serving children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities in their own homes
